The beginning 1950’s to 60’s, it was on St. Andrew’s Rd where 2 adults and 5 kids lived in a small house. Mom was friends will all the neighbours and everyone played with everyone, Dad was always washing his car. Mom used to bake and bake and sell it to make extra money. In 1962 we moved to 20 Victory Place. Judy and Louis were born, family done! Mom wanted to work, so with 7 kids, she became the flyer boss of St. Vital. Family, nephews and friends in St. Vital all delivered the lance flyer for a few years. That was the start of Mom becoming Mrs. "P." or Mom to all our friends, and there are hundreds. Mom loved people visiting and having tea; she loved talking to people, our home was always open to all!
Mom had her faith, she believed in prayer and made sure we all went to church and were taught to believe in love, caring and compassion to all.
In the 60’s, Mom had a factory sewing machine set up in the basement, where she would sew piecework to make extra money for the family. She was an incredible gifted seamstress, every one of us kids were always perfectly dressed. The girl’s dresses fit perfect, the boy’s pants hemmed just like the designers do. Mom would lovingly help everyone, from fixing their sewing machines, to designing a beautiful outfit for someone, or altering that special outfit. To be pinned by Mom you knew it would be perfect. Late 60’s Mom went to work for Eaton’s in Fabrics, then selling and learning about all the newest sewing machines. She would be so proud to be teaching design students or family how to use the most advanced machines. She was very good.
Mom was a born singer and dancer, she sang in church in French and English. She sang with her sisters, she sang at home, we danced at home, she’d sing in the car, music and singing and dancing were always so much fun, and she loved it. Mom would take the entire family to every family dance, social, family wedding and anniversary, or whatever party and we would dance, all us kids and our friends were her dance partners many a times. We had so much fun.
In the 70’s, Mom and Dad bought a farm. We had our own beach and our own 81 acres of land. Dad built us a bunk house and we had Friday our horse, really Joey’s horse. Dad had a tractor, it was a magical time that Mom and Dad created for us and we shared it with everyone. We all have so many memories.
In the 1980’s brought Woolco, Hazelwood Cres. and Winnipeg Beach. At Woolco, Mom was happy; she was close to home. She revisited with old neighbours, new neighbours, new friends and old and was always close for her family. I don’t think there was a day that she didn’t come home with some news. Hazelwood Cres. and Silverdale (Wpg. Beach) were so full of everyone and everything. Mom was an organizer, a leader. She loved to cook and entertain and shared all with everyone. No one ever left the house hungry!
Mom was very proud, she was proud of Dad, of her children and her grandchildren and her great- grandchildren. She was proud of her heritage, of her brothers and sisters and their children. She was proud of her friends and all of our friends, and she let us know it. She was also so proud to be elected "President" of the Dance Club. Mom was so many things to so many of us.
When Mom became ill, we were all there for her and we all tried to make her time full of goodness. Judy would come in and do her hair and fuss, Marie and Russell would bring Abby and Tuk to giver her doggie kisses. Art, whenever he came to town, would take her for car rides, wherever she wanted to go, and always buy her Chinese food from Marigold’s. Louis, Joe and myself were always stopping by with McDonald’s or one of her favourite junk foods. We’d share stories/ gossip and enjoy being together. Ron, you made it possible for Mom to fulfill her wish to stay at home and enjoy what she could in her final year. A sincere heartfelt Thank-you from all your siblings and extended families.
