Obituary of Alexander SHAWARSKY
ALEXANDER SHAWARSKY
May 27, 1956 - June 24, 2010
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alexander, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the age of 54.
Remaining to forever cherish his memory are, his wife, Vera, his beloved son, Andrew, parents, Nadia and Peter, brothers, Ihor and Oleh (Lydia), mother-in-law, Dobr. Halyna Teterenko, nephew and niece, Mark and Adriana, Goddaughters, Jillian and Sabrina, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Alexander was born in Winnipeg on May 27th, 1956. His sense of humour and caring ways with everyone he encountered made him special to so many people. His love and thoughtfulness for others remained a constant throughout his illness.
He had a passion for music and was an accomplished violinist. He cared very much for his students at Tauber Music and Yamaha Music School and most recently at Academy School of Learning. Teaching was his true calling; it brought him much joy and personal fulfillment.
Prayers will be held at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 820 Burrows Ave. on Sunday, June 27 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 28th at 10:00 a.m. also at the Cathedral. Rev. Dr. Jaroslav Buciora will officiate. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
The family extends their gratitude to the health-care team at Victoria General Hospital, and the palliative care teams, who cared for him at home and at Riverview Health Centre for making his last days peaceful and comfortable. A special thank-you to his co-workers at Academy of Learning, especially Mike and Sharon, for their constant support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alexander's memory to St. Mary the Protectress Cathedral or a charity of your choice.
