Obituary of Harry RUSKIN

HARRY RUSKIN With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Harry Ruskin at the age of 94 on August 30, 2009 at the Misericordia Health Centre. Harry was born in Rorketon, MB on January 12, 1915 to his parents, Fred and Maria. He was predeceased by his brothers Andrew, Pete, John and Bill; his sisters, Ann and Daisy; his nephew, Bill and niece, Lucille. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Polly of almost 63 years; his sister, Jean Danish, and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. At the age of 17, Harry moved to Kenora, Ontario, where he was employed by the pulp and paper mill until 1939. He joined the Army in 1940 and was shipped overseas in 1941, where he spent time in Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, and Holland and was an honorary recipient of several war medals. After returning from the War, he resided in Winnipeg where he met his wife, Polly, and were married in 1946. He worked for Canada Packers for seven years and then at the CN Shops as a Carman for 33 years until he retired in 1980. Harry was part of a very close family and enjoyed all the frequent family gatherings whether it was just an ordinary Sunday afternoon or a special occasion. He loved his cars and was always talking about the next one that he would buy. He enjoyed taking road trips to places in Canada and the U.S. and then later on bus tours. He also enjoyed playing cribbage in his earlier years and then King Pedro, which became a family favourite. The family would like to thank Harry's personal physician, Dr. D. Miller, for his care throughout the years. We would also like to thank the staff at Misericordia Health Centre for their care, friendliness and compassion towards Harry while in their care. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street, North.
