WILLIAM VICTOR REIMER April 19, 1924 - July 21, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Reimer, our dear dad and grandfather (Opa) at the age of 87. He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by sons, Bill Jr. and Derek (Cheryl); grandchildren Kimberly (fianc Scott) and Christine (friend Evan); brother Ike and sisters Elsie, Ann, Helen & Mary. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Victoria (Vicky) in 2000; parents Agatha & Peter; brothers Pete, John, Jake (infant), Jake, Abe and sisters Helen (infant) & Agnes. Dad was born near Miami, MB on April 19, 1924 where he grew up on the family farm. As a teenager, the family moved to Winnipeg and he began working at Birt Saddlery. Dad joined the army in 1941 with the Medical Corps. Dad met Mom, his soul mate, during the war and they married in 1946. They were inseparable and shared everything together in work and in play. After the war, he became an upholsterer and then worked in the steel industry. During this time, Bill Jr. and Derek were born. The family moved to Toronto in 1956 and resided there until 1969. They came back to Winnipeg where Dad joined his brother, John at Standard Manufacturing. He worked several other jobs until Mom was diagnosed with diabetes. He then retired and dedicated his life to care for Mom. Dad was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was supportive of his sons in Sea Cadets and coaching hockey. Dad also took pride in attending all his grandchildren's soccer games and numerous school activities. Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year. He succumbed to the illness after a short battle while in the care of the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks for all the care and compassion provided by Dr. J Smart and Stella, CancerCare and the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. Funeral Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
