Obituary of Maria Martins)
MARIA RAPOSO (nee Martins)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our me and vavo Maria Adelaide Raposo at Victoria General Hospital on October 13, 2009.
Maria was born in So Miguel, Aores, Portugal on April 12, 1944. She immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada to be with her husband, Francisco Raposo in 1963. Here they began their family and pursued a better life. Widowed at the very young age of 34, Maria worked tirelessly and overcame many obstacles with courage and a positive attitude and managed single-handedly to raise her four children and provide them with a wonderful home and great start to their lives.
Throughout the many challenges in her life, she never lost her beautiful smile and joyful chuckle that cheered up all who knew her. Maria enjoyed listening to her Portuguese music, tending her garden and walking her beloved dog Buddy up and down Pacific Avenue.
Maria was pre-deceased by an infant son, her husband Francisco and by her parents, Artur and Maria. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her four children, Fatima (Peter), Lucy (Ken), Manuel (Kelly) and Francisco (Tara) and grandchildren Maria, Costa, Ryan, Francisco, Emma and Diego. She is survived by her siblings Jos Maria (Maria Jos), Artur (Fernanda), Antero (Leontina), Belmira (George) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayers will be held at 8:00 P.M. Friday October 16, 2009 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday October 17, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. with Very Rev. Jos Eduardo Medeiros, V. F. officiating. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery.
