Obituary of DAVID BENELL

DAVID WARD BENELL July 3, 1959 - October 14,2011 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dave (Benny) Benell on October 14, 2011 at the Victoria General Hospital. Dave grew up in Fort Garry, graduating from Vincent Massey Collegiate. He then went on to University of Manitoba, graduating with his Masters of Science in Agricultural Economics. After graduation, he worked for Transport Canada as a Research Associate and during this time had many of his written works published. Afterwards, he worked as a Policy Economist with the National Grains Bureau. Dave's love of adventure eventually led him into a gold exploration venture in Bissett, Manitoba. This was his passion as he could enjoy nature prospecting and staking claims as well as use his expertise in surveying to improve road conditions. Bissett was a second home for Dave and he loved to tell the stories of his business venture and the people he met. Sports was another passion of Dave's. He was an all-star football player with the Fort Garry Lions, playing defensive back. He enjoyed the camaraderie with his fellow players and was a great teammate. One of Dave' s strongest traits was his devotion. He was resolutely devoted to his pets, of which he had many over his life, and he was also devoted to keeping up with his friends and family. We will never forget the phone calls from Dave when he was not able to make it out for a visit. He was a generous and caring soul, always putting other's needs before his own. Dave was predeceased by his mother, Ruth Benell. He will be remembered lovingly by his father, Bob Benell, brothers and sisters Ron, John (Karen), Kathy (Mark), Pat (Jean Michel), and Jane (Ed) as well as his nieces and nephews. We wish to offer a special thank you to the staff at VGH and HSC as well as Stu and Blaine for your friendship and care for Dave. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 22,2011 at 11 :00 a.m. at Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place, Fort Garry.
