Jim PROBETTS

Obituary of Jim PROBETTS

JIM PROBETTS It is with sadness that the family of Jim Probetts announces his death on Monday, September 21, 2009, at Riverview Health Centre. Jim was the cherished husband of Brenda; father of Matthew and David; cousin of Jack (Donna) Grassie and Gordon (Diane) McDowell. He was predeceased by his parents George Probetts and Annie Lavery. Jim was born in Winnipeg on November 11, 1946, and spent his early years living in the west end of the city. When his father was transferred to Seattle, the family moved and Jim discovered his love for sports. He was an avid baseball player and enjoyed basketball and curling. Jim could often be found sitting on the banks of the Red River throwing in a line, soaking up the sun, and enticing the catfish. Jim loved to cook and was an excellent meal maker. We never knew what culinary delights awaited us from the lumpy mac and cheese to the toasted and roasted tube steaks. All attempts were appreciated and remembered and earned Jim the Chef of Distinction Award. For thirty-four years he worked for CP Rail and the railway remained in his blood. Jim had a number of model trains and there were many cold winter nights spent recreating train scenes. We cherish and honor all that Jim taught us, the values he tried to instill and the strength he was for each of us. He will be remembered and missed. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to all the friends who journeyed with them over the last five years and to the excellent staff on CD1 at Riverview. Flowers are greatly declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of their choice. "Do you want the door opened or closed?"
