Viola Meryl Powers (nee Morris) Viola (Vi) Meryl Powers passed away peacefully on May 5, 2011 at Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home. Vi was born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan on March 24, 1929. After completion of school she moved to Winnipeg in 1949 where she met her beloved husband Frederick (Fred) and they enjoyed married life for over 47 years. Vi enjoyed working, outdoor camping and fishing. She and Fred were members of Westworth United Church, where Vi was active in leading brownies, and explorers. Vi was predeceased by her parents, husband Fred, daughter Wendy, sisters Florence, Hazel, Adele, Jean, and brothers Evans and Harper. She will be dearly missed by her son Glen (Sally), grandsons Jonah and Ben, brother Ghomer, sister-in-law Joan, brother-in-law Eugene, many nieces, nephews and friends, especially Kay and Larry Strachan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Manitoba Cancer Society, or Westworth United Church. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 18 at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave. at 1pm. Please gather at the front gate at 12.50pm.
