Sophie Pomarenski

Obituary of Sophie Pomarenski

Sophie Pomarenski (nee Enoff) 1923 - 2008 It is with great sadness that the family of Sophie Pomarenski announces her passing on July 23, 2008, at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 84, after a battle with cancer. She is sadly missed by husband of 64 years Paul, son David (Pat) and grandchildren Darren(Chelsea) and Paige(friend John) Lawrie, Amanda, Kurt(Ellie), and Mark Pomarenski. She is also survived by sisters Helen(Bill), Rose(Gene), and brother Mike(friend Mary). She was predeceased by daughter Carolle, parents Mary and Sam Enoff, and sisters Ann and Nellie. Sophie was born on August 14, 1923 and raised in the mining town of Levack, Ontario where she met Paul. They were married on May 23, 1944 and a year later, moved to Winnipeg. In 1956, they settled into their residence of 50 years on Lansdowne Avenue in the North End. She will always be remembered as a neighbor who always had a kind word and a generous heart. Sophie worked for many years along side her husband in the family grocery business, but her real pride was in her home. Anyone who came to Winnipeg stayed with Sophie and Paul. Family gatherings and her cooking are still talked about - her holupchies were the best. Sophie's passion was her family, especially the grandchildren. They were the source of her greatest pleasure, and she enjoyed talking with them even after they spread out across the globe. Special thanks to all the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Centre for taking excellent care of Sophie and also thanks to family and friends who made Sophie's life special. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel on Saturday, August 9. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sophie's memory may be sent to Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., R3L 2P4. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.cropo.com.
