Obituary of Sarah PETERSON
SARAH (SADIE) PETERSON
With great sadness we announce the passing of Sadie Peterson on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Seven Oaks Hospital at 91 years of age.
Sadie is survived by her loving son David, of Kelowna, BC, granddaughters Kristy Ingram (Chad) and Laurie Peterson, of Winnipeg and their mother Patricia (Terry) Sandison, niece Sheila (John) Harkness, of Redditch, England, nephew Jim Bryce, of Coatbridge, Scotland, and Joan Dougherty, of Winnipeg, special long time friend Jean Carlson and Sadie's many friends at Luther Home Apartments in West Kildonan.
Sadie was born in Coatbridge, Scotland, on October 18, 1918. She married John Birrell in 1942. John was lost in a Halifax bomber raid over Germany in 1943. By a twist of fate she was introduced to Ernie Peterson, who was serving in England, by a Winnipeg family friend whom had also lost her husband in the same Halifax bomber crash. When WW2 ended she followed Ernie back to Canada and they were married in Winnipeg in 1947. They had two children Ronald and David and lived in West Kildonan until Ernie was transferred to Montreal with Air Canada and then returned to Winnipeg after Ernie's retirement. Sadie worked for many years at Reward Shoes in West Kildonan and latterly at O'Hanlon Shoes in Winnipeg Square. She was one of the original tenants at Luther Home Apartments.
Sadie was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, husband John (1943), husband Ernie (1983), and her son Ronald (1994).
In accordance with Sadie's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A drop by gathering of friends to remember Sadie will be held at Luther Home Apts, 1084 Powers St. (entrance off Partridge) on Wednesday, June 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ash interment will take place in Scotland at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the charity of one's choice.
