Obituary of Eduardo Pereira

Eduardo Pereira September 28, 1931-October 19, 2009 Unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on October 19, 2009, Eduardo Pereira, aged 78 years, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away at Health Sciences Centre. Eduardo was born in Sao Miguel, A�ores. He immigrated to Canada in 1957. He was the third of four children born to Maria Do Espirito Santo Cabral and Manuel Tavares Pereira, who both predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his brothers Manuel and Julio. He is survived by his beloved wife Guilhermina, daughter Fatima (Carlos), sons Ed (Teresa) and Manny (Patricia), sister Odilia, brother-in-law Leonardo (Concei�ao) Rego, grandsons Nelson (Holly), Christopher, Brendan and Devon, granddaughters Ashley (Jordan) and Chelsea, and numerous extended family and friends. Before immigrating to Canada, Eduardo tended to his vineyards at his home back in Portugal. After coming to Winnipeg, he worked for CN Rail for many years as well as in the construction industry. When he retired, he spent the majority of his time grooming his yard and taking great care and pride in his gardens. He had quite the green thumb. He very much looked forward to attending weekly Legion of Mary meetings with his wife, where he made numerous friends. He also loved spending time with his beloved family. They were his world and the most important thing in his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank Dr. West and all other medical staff at Health Sciences Centre for their excellent care during his short stay. Prayers will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 8:00 pm at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 10:00 am, also at Immaculate Conception Parish with Rev. Fr. Jos� Eduardo Medeiros, V.F. as Celebrant. Interment will take place immediately following the mass at Assumption Catholic Cemetery (Queen of Heaven Mausoleum), 3990 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eduardo's name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division (division office), 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7, and/or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Wpg., MB R3C 0S6.
