JOHNNY OSTAFICHUK It is with great sadness that we announce the accidental passing of our dear father Johnny Ostafichuk on December 24, 2009. Johnny was born to Ted and Lena Ostafichuk the fourth child of six on June 27, 1933 in Lennard, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor in 1984; his brother Lorne and his parents also one niece and two nephews. Johnny leaves behind two daughters Brenda (Ward) and Karen (Darren) and one son Brian (Carla); one brother George O'Staff (Mary); three sisters Elsie (Bill), Marge (Orest) and Mary (Richard); sister-in-law Edith; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many many close friends. Johnny also leaves behind a partner and very dear friend who was close to his heart, Jean Hnatiuk and her family. Johnny worked in a mine in his younger years in Wawa, Ontario. He relocated back to Winnipeg and retired with 36 years of service from Great West Metals. Many summers were spent on the farm in Inglis, visiting with many family members and friends. Dad enjoyed the company of family and friends. He had a great love for both All Saints and St. Ivan's Churches. He was a board member with the Dufferin Seniors Club, volunteering his services for various activities. He loved and thoroughly enjoyed dancing and listening to Ukrainian and Romanian music. If you saw a band playing Ukrainian music you were sure Dad was never far away. One of his favourite pastimes was getting together with others and playing cards. He also enjoyed spring planting of the garden and flowers. He thoroughly enjoyed the fall when he started his canning, especially his dill pickles.
