William Nickol

Obituary of William Nickol

William (WALLY) NICKOL Following a year long battle with cancer, Bill passed away May 1, 2010, at the age of 87. He lived the last months of his life with courage and determination, taking great pleasure from precious moments with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Blanche: three daughters: Dianne (Murray) Bater; Toni (Bob) Dujlovic; Bonnie Sinnock (Dom Di Marco); 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother Joe (Patricia) Nickol. He was predeceased by his parents; Frank and Jessie Nickol; sister and brother in law; Susan and Joe Osinski. Bill was born in Poland, but was proud to call Winnipeg home the rest of his life. He joined the Royal Command Naval Volunteer Reserve on June 9, 1942 and proudly served his country aboard ship in the North Atlantic supporting and defending Allied Troops in Europe. He was an active member of Winnipeg Legion 141. In retirement Bill and Blanche travelled extensively and shared many wonderful adventures with friends they met along the way. Their last summer together was spent at their beloved trailer in Gimli, where he was very content, surrounded by wonderful, caring friends. Heartfelt thank you to the following: Dr. Terry Babick, everyone at CancerCare Manitoba and to the Palliative Care Teams for their professional and personal care. But most of all to Mom, whose unconditional love and tireless care-giving enabled Dad to remain at home until a week before his passing, you are an inspiration to all of us. A Funeral Service will be held, Thursday, May 6th at 1:00 PM at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Father Isidore Dziadyk OSBM officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined.
