Obituary of WLADYSLAWA SAWICZ

WLADYSLAWA SAWICZ It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on February 22, 2012. Left to cherish her memory are her 6 children and their families, daughters, Wanda, children Kirsten and Kelli (Peter); Jessie, children, David (Vanessa), Wendy, Billy (Jen);Barbara ( Kevin), children Christal, Daniel, Janelle, Nicole; Teresa(John) and son Von: sons Kaz (Arlene), children John (Anna), Tony, Jennifer; John (Nancy), children Shaun and Jeremy. She was also blessed with 6 great-grandchildren. Wladyslawa was predeceased by her husband Stanley in 1996 and son-in-law Orest Lazaruk in 2008. Our Mother was born June 6, 1926 in Strzalowo, Baranowicze, Poland. In September 1943, she was taken from her home and sent to Obermmergau, Germany and would never see her family again. After the War, she was one of the thousands of Displaced Persons. She married our Father in May 1947. Wanda and Kaz were born in Germany. Dad came to Canada in June 1949 and Mom with children joined him February 1950. She told the story of crossing the ocean on a ship to Halifax and then immediately getting on a train to travel across the country to Winnipeg. Mom was generous in so many ways to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her lifetime dedication was her family and home. She reminded us that with determination we could get through challenges. Her Catholic Faith was a strong support in difficult times. Wladyslawa was proud to be a member of Holy Ghost Church and The Catholic Women's League. She enjoyed her last 6 years living at Selo Villa and making many new friends. Thank you to Manager John who provided many activities in the block for the residents. She enjoyed the birthday celebrations, many dinners and bus trips around the city. For Mom, the North-End of Winnipeg provided a sense of community and Fellowship. Funeral Service will be Monday, February 27th at 10:00 a.m at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so choose, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her memory. We will miss her and always have her in our hearts.
