Obituary of Fred Mykytyshyn
FRED MYKYTYSHYN September 5, 1935 - December 20, 2010
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Fred Mykytyshyn at the age of 75 at the Health Sciences Centre.
Left to cherish his memory are, his wife of 51 years, Helen; daughter Louann Bergen and son-in-law Loren Fox; son Frederick (Sandra Krohn) and granddaughter Leah Bergen; sister Sophie Ritz; brother John of Hamilton; sister and brother-in-law Stephie and Ed Sumka; sister-in-law Betty Mykytyshyn; other in-laws Frances and Victor Grosselle, John Krewda, Julia Krewda and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by his parents Harry and Anna; sister Lena Strocen; brother Roy and in-laws Ed Ritz, Paul Strocen, Alice Mykytyshyn and Tony Krewda.
Fred was born in Rama, SK. He graduated from Yorkton Collegiate. He began as the manager of Yorkton Scrap Iron Dealership. Next he moved to Winnipeg and became interested in floor covering. He opened his own businesses F. M. Design Crafts Ltd. and F. M. Carpet and Flooring Warehouse. When he retired he managed Fred's Newsstand.
Fred was proud of his Ukrainian heritage. He was president of the Ukrainian National Home Association for the past 28 years, associated with The Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies of St. Andrews College, president and board member of Trident Press, director of Osvita Foundation, a member on the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and the Ukrainian Professional Business Men's Association. Fred loved Ukrainian music and was pleased when Hoosli made their home with the U.N.H.A., which he was a member of for the past 46 years.
Fred enjoyed golfing, curling, bowling, fishing, and playing cribbage with Loren. He always found time to watch his daughter Ukrainian dance and his granddaughter dance. Fred took great joy in watching his son play soccer and baseball. He would travel from coast to coast just to watch Frederick play Slo-Pitch in the Nationals.
Fred was loved by all. He will be remembered best by others for his kind heart, generous nature and the ability to joke and put a smile on everyone's face.
Thank-you to the kind and diligent staff at SICU ward in the Health Sciences Centre.
Prayers will be held on Tuesday, December 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary the Protectress Sobor, 820 Burrows Ave. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
