Obituary of Dennis Melnyk
Dennis Melnyk
Nov. 1, 1942 - Nov. 20, 2010
Dennis peacefully passed away at Riverview Heath Centre after a courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife Gloria, daughters Darolyne (lan), Denise (Duncan), son Dan, grandchildren Shaylyn and Gareth, brother Bill (Florence), sister Nettie, sister-in-law Valerie, brother-in-law David, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, sister Diane and brother-in-law Donnie.
Dennis was born in Hayek Manitoba, and farmed until 1980. He moved his family to Winnipeg and was employed by CP Rail until 2000. After retiring from CP Rail, Dennis worked for the RM of West St. Paul until his retirement.
Dennis was a loving husband, father, Gigi, and friend. He was known as a man of many talents and took tremendous pride in any project he ever undertook. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. His sound judgment and good advice earned him the respect of everyone who knew him. Dennis loved to "spin a few" at the casino, drives in the country, fishing, and hunting. He will be remembered for his storytelling and reminiscing.
The family would like to extend many heartfelt thanks to Denise Klassen and all the Oncology doctors and staff at Cancer Care, Lana Garofalo and all the palliative care nurses that cared for Dennis. Special thanks to the staff at 3E East Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Centre for their kind and compassionate care for Dennis. Thank you to everyone who visited Dennis at home and in the hospital and a very special thank you to Richard and Linda Batenchuk for their love, kindness and support.
A celebration of Dennis' life will be held on Thursday, November 25, at 11:00 AM at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
