Obituary of Sr. SSMI
SR. POLYCARP ANNE MATWIY, SSMI 1915-2008 Sr. Polycarp Anne Matwiy, SSMI died suddenly on March 31, at McMaster University Medical Centre in her 93rd year and 71st year of religious life.
She was born to Peter and Catherine (nee Tchorowski) Matwiy in Yorkton, SK on November 12, 1915. She entered the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate on November 25, 1937. Sister Polycarp enriched her religious community with her many talents and wholehearted and joyful service. She taught religion and Ukrainian School, was Prefect in the Academies in Yorkton and Ancaster. She served in the Episcopal residences in Winnipeg, Toronto and Edmonton. Sr. Polycarp was missioned in Montreal, Sydney, Saskatoon, Regina, Kitchener, Thunder Bay, Oshawa and Prince Albert and Pennsylvania and New York, USA. In Winnipeg at Holy Family Home she supervised housekeeping for three years and served in pastoral care and as sacristan 15 years. Sister Polycarp enjoyed her life in community and as an active participating member of the HFNH Ladies' Auxiliary. She shared with all her love for people, nature, hockey and horses! Funeral Services for Sisters Polycarp and Germaine SSMI will be at St. Nicholas Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue, Winnipeg. Panakhyda on Sunday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m., Funeral Liturgy on Monday, April 7 at 10:00 am.
