Obituary of Maria Majowski
Maria Majowski
In the early morning hours of January 31, 2011, Maria Majowski, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the Holy Family Home.
Maria was born in Podhajczyki, Tarnopol, Poland on November 28, 1930.
Maria was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Peter (Piotr), infant son Tadeusz , her parents Jan Suszczynski and Katarzyna (Bartmanowicz), sister Ludwiga, brother Wladyslaw (and wife Jozefa). We, her sons, Joseph (Janina), John (Jadzia) and Stanley (Kristina) mourn our Mom. Left to mourn Babcia are her nine grandchildren: Alicia (Jason), Peter (fiancee Janet), Kathryn (JJ), Eugene (Sabrina), Teresa, Francis, Anna, Luke and Adam, as well as three great-grandchildren Cameron, Juliana and Liliana. Also left behind are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada and Poland.
After living through the horrors of the Second World War, Maria was re-settled in the province of Opole, Poland. In 1950, mom married our father, Piotr. In November of 1958, with their sons Joseph and John they immigrated to Chitek Lake, Saskatchewan. Maria has resided in Winnipeg since September of 1959.
Maria worked in the garment industry as a sewing machine operator but mostly she was a stay at home mom to her three sons. Mom had a great love for her Church, her family, sewing, gardening, cooking and baking. Mom especially enjoyed feeding and entertaining family and friends in her home. No one, ever, left our home hungry. Maria has been a member of Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church and the Rosary Solidality since her arrival in Winnipeg.
Due to her illness, Maria was a resident of the Holy Family Home since March of 2004. We thank Dr. Babick and the staff on the St. Francis Ward for their kindness and care in looking after our "Mother". Thank you, also, to the Charleswood Care Centre (during mom's brief stay there) and the Homecare Workers who visited with Mom in her home in Fort Richmond.
