Obituary of Krystyna(christine)bernadette Mackow

Krystyna(Christine)Bernadette Mackow It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, Krystyna Mackow, on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the age of 62 years. She passed in the presence of her loving husband, children and sister by her side. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband John of 43 years, her children Bob (Debbie), Karen Derkacz (Danny), Elizabeth Boroditsky (Michael) and Mariane McKiernan (Sean). She leaves behind her adored grandchildren Emma, Madeline, Jordan, Sydney, Finn and Katlyn. Also her only sister and best friend Janet Dunits (Dave), brothers Zbigniew Dzik (Marie), George Dzik, sister-in-law Sophie Semkowski, and family in Poland, along with numerous family and friends. Krystyna was predeceased by her sister Mary Dzik, mother Antonina Dzik, father John Dzik, and brother-in-law Michael Semkowski. Krystyna was born September 23, 1946 in Zakencie, Poland, the eldest of five children. She immigrated to Winnipeg in 1958 where she met and married her beloved husband John. Her greatest love of all was her family. Krystyna could always be found rising early in the morning with much excitement to go pick mushrooms. If she wasn't out mushroom picking, she was blueberry picking. If that wasn't enough to keep her hard working hands busy, you could find her making pickles, sauerkraut, or one of her delicious soups. She was an amazing cook and no one ever left her house hungry. She had a heart of gold that did not know how to stop giving and for that, she will always be remembered. Krystyna had many favorite times of the year. She loved the spring for taking the grandchildren to bless the Easter baskets. She loved the summer for her joy of gardening and the winter for the family gathering at Christmas. Those memories and many more will live on forever in our hearts. The family extends their deepest thanks to Dr. Michael Cantor, Dr. Gary Harding, Cindy Pierce R.N., and to all the staff at Riverview Health Centre - Unit 3E for their care and compassion. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Joel Loiselle for his kindness and care during mom's illness. A private family funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Thank you to Father Sdzislaw Chmiel and to all the family and friends for their kindness and support. Thank you to Rick Kotaska of Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Donations may be made in Krystyna's memory to Cancer Care Manitoba or to Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, please make a contribution to a charity of your choice.
