Obituary of Angela Louizos

Angela (Koula) Louizos 1959 - 2009 With great sorrow in our hearts, our family announces the untimely passing of our beloved wife, mother and daughter, Angela (Koula) Louizos, on Monday, September 14, 2009. Born on March 31, 1959 in Eressos, Mytilene, Greece, Angela was a precious gift to her parents Maria and Athanasios Kritikos who forever thought the world of her. In 1974, Angela immigrated to Winnipeg with her adoring husband, Socrates (Steve) Louizos, to begin a new life together. During their 35-year marriage, Angela and Socrates experienced many joyous occasions but none so joyous as the birth of their two children, Anita and Demos, who were the centre of Angela's life. She loved her children deeply and was a model mother who devoted her entire life to them. Her children will always remember their mother for her unconditional love, unwavering strength, and admirable ability to remain cheerful even during the most trying times. Angela shared many wonderful years with her husband Socrates and they enjoyed taking numerous vacations together. Their favorite holidays, however, were those spent with their children during their annual trips to Greece. Angela will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother but she will also be remembered as an incredibly caring and dedicated daughter. As an only child, Angela shared a special bond with her mother Maria who she was inseparable with. The two were the best of friends and enjoyed each other's company immensely, especially while cooking and baking, something Angela was well known for. One of Angela's greatest passions was entertaining her large circle of family and friends. Her door was always open and Angela was always there waiting, cheerful and full of life. On Sundays, Angela attended church regularly, and was devoted to her Greek Orthodox faith. Her fellow parishioners will not soon forget her incredibly warm smile and kind words. Mom, you left us too soon and you will be missed dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that your suffering is over and you are at peace. We will love you and remember you always. Angela is predeceased by her father, Athanasios Kritikos. She is survived by her husband Socrates (Steve), her daughter Anita, her son Demos, her mother Maria Kritikos and numerous relatives in both Canada and Greece. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. Both services will take place at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue with Rev. Fr. Theodore Paraskevopoulos officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Demos Constantinides, George Constantinides, Christopher Louizos, Demos Louizos, Nicholas Louizos, and Sarantos Mattheos. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Hellenic Cultural Centre, 2255 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3P 0S2, (204) 889-8723, or to the CancerCare MB Foundation Room 1160, 675 McDermot Avenue, R3E 0V9.
