Obituary of Helen LEBAN

HELEN LEBAN (nee KIJANKA) Peacefully, on November 15, 2008, Helen passed away at the age of 86 at Seven Oaks Hospital with family by her side. Helen was born in Winnipeg on July 1, 1922 and was predeceased by her parents Michael and Katherine Kijanka, siblings, Walter, Jessie, Frances, Stanley and Kazmir (family name Kijanka). Helen married William Leban in 1941 and resided in Hamilton for a short while. They moved back to Winnipeg in 1943, where they worked and raised their family. Helen was predeceased by her husband William in 1987, her son William Jr. in 2006 and her daughter Judith in 2007. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her sister Mary Scraba, Matlock, MB, cousins Josephine and Julia in California, many nieces and nephews across Canada and U.S.A., and her friends and neighbours at Luther Home, 1080 Powers Street, where she resided for the last 13 years. The family would especially like to thank nephew Bobby Kayanka for his compassionate care for his aunt after the loss of her immediate family. Thank you to close friends, and the staff at both Seven Oaks Hospital and Health Sciences Centre. At Helen's request, cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Helen's memory to a charity of your choice.
