STEVE LAJ September 11,1931- July 9, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Steve Laj. On July 9th, 2011, at the age of 79, Steve passed away with his family by his side at Seven Oaks Hospital. Remembering to forever cherish Steve's memory is his wife of 53 years, Tereza, daughters, Kathy Brnjas, Suzi Laj, grand-daughters, Natalie, Jennifer, Danica. He will also be deeply missed by his lovely extended family. He was predeceased by his parents Mirko, Katarina, brothers, Joze, Franc, sister, Anna, son-in-law, Zlatko. Steve was born in Dol. Lakos, Slovenia on September 11th, 1931. He immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in April of 1957, and in February of 1958 married his wife Tereza. Steve worked at Sutherland Supply from his first day in Canada till the day he retired in 1990. He spent his free time doing what he loved most, visiting his cottage in Gimli, fishing, gardening, traveling, and playing cards with his loved ones. Steve, until his final days was an active member of the Croatian Parish, St. Nicholas Tavelich, and the Croatian community. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to all who have helped in this difficult time. Also, a special thank-you to all the staff at the intensive care unit at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion. Rosary and Prayers will be held on Tuesday July 12th, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday July 13th, 2011 at St. Nicholas Tavelich Church, 2688 Main Street at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Robert Polz officiating, with a reception to follow at the Croatian Banquet Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation may be made in Steve's Honour.
