Stella KULAGA

Obituary of Stella KULAGA

STELLA KULAGA (nee BOHART) On Monday, August 3, 2009, Stella Kulaga passed away peacefully at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home at the age of 93 years. Stella was predeceased by her husband Stanley, parents Nicholas and Pearl Bohacz, and sisters Jenny, Marie, and Helen. Auntie Stella will be greatly missed by her brother Walter and nephews Gerald (Carol) Hawryluk, Ronald(Karen) Bohart, and Darryl(Christine) Bohart. She will also be missed by her great-nephew Grant(Amanda) Hawryluk, and her great-nieces Kelly(Brian) Bain and Alyssa Bohart all of whom she treated as her own grandchildren. Stella was born in the family home in Weston on April 21, 1916 and remained a Westoner all of her life. She attended school at Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre where she enjoyed all sports. Upon graduation she attended business college and went to work for McGeachie and Holdsworth as an accountant until she retired. She was a great resource when it came to the history of people in the Brooklands/Weston area as everyone that she met always had a place in her memory. Stella enjoyed gardening and every spring her yard would come alive with all of the flowers she would plant. She would always send visitors home with fresh vegetables from her back yard garden. Stella also enjoyed sports and was a Blue Bomber season ticket holder from the time of Osborne Stadium until she was in her eighties. She also enjoyed bowling, golf, and bridge. All of her pastimes lead to travel. Whether it was to more than 30 Grey Cups with her football friends, trips to the Maritimes with the bridge girls, or trips to Expos and Calgary with family, she was always at home on the road. Her favorite trips always involved family; to Calgary to visit her sister Marie or to Sam and Helen's cabins to spend time with her closer family. Stella was also very proud of her work with her church. Keeping the books for St. Pat's Bingo and being a member of the Catholic Women's League were very important to her. She was very active with the church until her arthritis slowed her down. Stella remained in her home until she was 92 and just recently moved to the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home. We would like to extend our thanks to the nurses and staff of Station 2 at Tuxedo Villa for all of their caring provided to Auntie Stella. (A specials thanks to Carol's sister Barbara Hill for always looking in on her when we couldn't be around.) Prayers will be held on Monday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 11 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Chapel with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P.H. officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stella's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba would be appreciated.
