Obituary of Valerie KRAEMER

VALERIE DIANE KRAEMER (nee Ferens) September 18, 1950-December 22, 2010 With great sadness we announce the passing of Valerie Diane Kraemer after a long battle with cancer. She passed quietly in the twilight hours of December 22, 2010 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, surrounded by her family. Valerie was predeceased by her father William Ferens, mother Anne and father-in-law Peter Kraemer. She leaves behind her husband Gordon; children Damian and Justin; sister Sandra, brother-in-law Scott; nieces and nephews Zoe, Lydia, Ethan, Mark, Kathy, Tim, Michael and Kevin; as well as countless friends. She was always active in her community and with friends. She enjoyed curling at the West Kildonan curling club, bowling in the St. Anthony's bowling league. Other pastimes included skiing, golf and anything that could be done outside in the sun. However, her favourite pass time, in any season, was holidays with her family. Valerie was a beautiful, hard-working, selfless lady that always put her family first. She raised two sons with much help from her parents and parents-in-law. She was the primary care-giver for her parents near the end of their lives. She organized and sincerely enjoyed many family get-togethers for all sorts of special occasions. River East Collegiate was like her second home while the students and staff her second family. She was a dedicated teacher. As a guidance counselor and department head of Student Services there is no adequate way to measure the positive impact she had on the lives of her students. Her particular passion was for those students in the most difficult situations. Her favourite group was Senior 5. Cats were her other passion. There have been several fancy felines in her life, all of whom were loving and loyal companions. She cared for them endlessly and they did likewise (as much as cats ever do). The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank-you to the staff of the GD-6 ward at the Health Sciences Centre for the excellent care she received that went far beyond the call of duty. A celebration of Valerie's life will be held on Tuesday December 28, at 3:00pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, located at 1442 Main Street at Inkster. Cremation will take place earlier at a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her name to CancerCare Manitoba at 675 McDermot Ave, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
