Obituary of John KOWAL
JOHN KOWAL
Over the years, our dad's toolbox has gotten heavy...
November 10, 1921-February 9, 2011
Blessed with treasured memories, we announce the passing of our father at the Holy Family Home at the age of 89.
John is lovingly remembered by his daughters Vera and Steffie; sons-in-law Richard , Larry and Kyle; grandchildren Vanessa, Andrew, Dale , Bradley and Paula.
He was predeceased by his wife Elsa in 2004 and daughter Irene in 2007.
Born in Ukraine, youngest of five siblings, immigrated to Canada in 1949. John later married Elsa Feige and celebrated 50 years together. They raised three daughters in the home he built in Garden City.
Our father worked as a machinist/carpenter for Dowse Woodwork. His enjoyment came from working with wood, building and creating.
Blessed with "golden hands", using his skills to help family, friends, neighbors, no job was too big or small to give his perfection and good nature to.
John and Elsa enjoyed their travels to the Ukraine, Germany and Austria. Together they kept strong family ties to Germany and Ukraine. In dad's 78th year, he succumbed to a stroke but with his faith and strength was able to surmount his difficulties. An inspiration to us all.
The family wish to express its gratitude to the wonderful staff on 5th floor at Holy Family Home for the compassion and care to our father.
Celebration of our father's life is today, Saturday, February 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Bashutskyy officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery, 4355 Main Street.
