Obituary of Allan KNIGHT
ALLAN WILMOT KNIGHT May 15, 1933 - November 19, 2009
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, good friend and mentor to so many, past away peacefully with his family by his side.
Allan will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Jean, daughters Jan (Chris), Sandy (Byron), and Carol (Jon), and his grandchildren Michael, Catherine, Andrew, Kaylee, Tyler, Jack (father Stuart), and Annika. Allan will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, many of whom he had a special relationship with. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Lena and Lynne (Fred) and brother-in-law Keith Woods.
Allan was predeceased by his parents David and Bessie Knight, son David, brothers Roy, Ralph, Cecil, Neil, and sister Joy.
Allan was born in Cypress River Manitoba. He moved to Winnipeg with his family and attended University of Manitoba at the age of 16. He graduated from Engineering before starting a long and successful career at Manitoba Hydro for 39 years. He was well thought of and respected by many friends and colleagues and especially enjoyed his Friday pizza lunches.
Allan enjoyed his retirement years, devoting his time to his church and the Knights of Columbus.
Allan was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. A man of integrity, compassion and generosity. Truly a man for others. Thank you for your sense of humor, support and unconditional love, we love and will miss you Dad more than you will ever know.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses and other staff at CancerCare Manitoba, the Victoria Hospital and the Grace Hospice for their kindness and care. The family also would like to especially thank Gisele and Andy Baranowski, Sharon and Ed Lannoo, Judy and Lou Mackey, Elaine Summers, Vince Catalano and Bob Loiselle for all their help and support over the past months, as well as all others who faithfully visited Allan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive with Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski, V.G. as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Vital Parish Cemetery on Crescent Drive.
If friends so wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allan's memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
