Obituary of Jean Kekish

Jean Kekish It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Jean, she left us peacefully on May 2, 2010 and is now with her beloved husband and soul mate Walter. This extraordinary lady was born in Fisher Branch on August 21, 1948 to Dora and Mike Wakaluk. Jean was born and grew up on the family farm in Fisher Branch with her brothers Joe and Mike and her sister Doris. Amongst her many wonderful traits the one that stands out the most was her compassion for others and that she was always there to offer a helping hand. Jean met the love of her life Walter in December of 1947 at community dance in Fisher Branch. A few short months later they were married on Jean's Birthday and were inseparable for their entire 57 years of marriage. Jean was employed at Claude Neon for 18 years and was highly respected by all of the people she worked with. Her exceptional attention to detail and strong work ethic was valued and admired by all. Jean had many passions one of which was her passion for the outdoors, whether it was picking berries, wild mushrooms or working in her garden, she was always one for the outdoors. Another passion of Jean's was camping with Walter in Lac Du Bonnet in their Boler trailer. She and Walter loved fishing and spent many weekends outdoors doing just that. Jean was also an amazing cook, whether it was for Christmas Dinner or a backyard BBQ the food was always delicious. After Walter passed in 2005 Jean became ill and her health deteriorated. She was moved to her new home the Grace Hospice. This was an amazing journey for Jean and she formed many friendships in her new home treating the Hospice staff as family and again always wanting to lend a helping hand. You never left Jean's room empty handed, whether it was an orange or a box of chocolates, she was always giving. She beamed with pure joy and happiness in the gift of giving. Another favorite of Jean's was to go out for lunch with David and have lasagna , and then out to the farmer's market to pick out plump tomatoes and cucumbers. Jean is survived by many family members and friends who thought the world of her, including her sister in-law Diane Wakaluk and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Jean is predeceased by her beloved husband Walter, parents Mike and Dora, sister Doris and brothers Joe and Mike. Jean you will be greatly missed and part of you will always be with us, but until we meet again, we love you and hold you in our hearts.
