Obituary of Louis JURKOWSKI
LOUIS JURKOWSKI
Peacefully on December 14, 2009, Louis Jurkowski, beloved husband of Sophie, passed away at the Maples Personal Care Home.
Besides his loving wife Sophie, he is survived by his 2 sons, Fred (Valerie) and Len (Bernice); six grandchildren, Kelley, Lindsay, Dana, Tyler, Ryan and Karen; three great-grandchildren Liam, Mason and Emmett. He also leaves three sisters, Louise, Cecilia and Verna and brother Stan.
Louis was born and educated in Transcona. He served in the Canadian Army from 1941 to 1945. Louis and Sophie were married in 1946 and settled in North Kildonan. He worked at the C.N. Railway in Transcona from 1946 to 1956 and then with the Manitoba Telephone system from 1956 until his retirement in 1984.
Louis served on the North Kildonan School Board for 2years and in the North Kildonan Home and School Association in the 1950's to 1960's . He coached Little League Baseball in the 1960's in North Kildonan and was a Cub Leader for 30 years in Cub Pack. Louis was on the Executive Committee in Peguis District (East Kildonan area) and active in Holy Redeemer Church and their Knights of Columbus Council. He was active in the Telephone Pioneers, especially in their workshop where numerous wooden toys and articles are built for charitable concerns. Louis was also active in children's hockey and soccer in coaching at Gateway Community Club.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Maples Personal Care Home.
A private family service was held.
