Stephen Charles Jones November 23, 1939 - January 21 2010 The life of Steve Jones was one of exceptional friends collected over a lifetime filled with exceptional moments. Steve was born November 23, 1939 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to Rene and Sid Jones. Along with his sister Marnie, they lived in Montreal, Edmonton and London, England. This afforded Steve a diverse set of experiences that he recalled with fondness every single day of his life in stories and fables, some exaggerated and some not. In high school in Edmonton, Steve acquired a circle of friends who strove to be the best touch high school football squad in history. Many of these friendships endured a lifetime. After graduating from the University of Alberta with degrees in economics, Steve ventured out into business life in Canada during the 1960s. He came to identify himself as a hippie and a community activist, which led to Steve's involvement in journalism and publishing. He edited and/or published the Loving Couch Press, Omphalos, the Kenora Miner, Inland Magazine, Eye on Winnipeg, and Winnipeg Magazine. Steve lived communally for many years, making life long connections that comprise the close knit circle of friends who cared and loved him deeply. He gained an international reputation as a record collector, expert in jazz, rhythm and blues, soul, funk and gospel. Steve lived in Winnipeg from the late 1960s onward. He married in 1978 and in 1981 had a son, Will, who was a source of constant pride and love. Steve strove to teach his son life lessons and skills and continued to do so until his death on January 21, 2010. Steve is survived by his son Will and sister Marnie and all his many friends who were a part of his fascinating life. A Service for Steve was held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010.
