I worked with Shane at Tap & Grill, and lived above him in our Osborne Village apartment. We were close friends and I just learned of his passing today, January 9, 2020. I left Wpg in 1994 and said goodbye to him an hour before I drove out of town. I miss him horribly. He was a great, funny guy and one of the most generous friends I have ever had.

Sadly I have just been informed on the passing of one of the greatest guys i have ever met in the city of wpg. He was one of a kind,... always with a warm smile and a knowing glance. This city already seems less brilliant. I sincerely wish you his family a hug from me, cuz you guys created a really good one in Shane. Peace and smiles, Carey.

Although I did not have the good fortune of knowing Shane for many years, as so many others did, I got to know him in the last few months of his life. I also had a very pleasant interaction with him only days before his untimely passing. Shane was a true character. He was funny, he was forthright, he was honest, he was smart. He was obviously many things to many people. I really liked the guy and I have been struck over the last week about how much I miss him. My condolences go to his family and his close friends in their time of grief. Shane, you are, and will be, missed.

I left Winnipeg about 20 years ago and I've hardly seen George Jr. since then, let alone Shane. However, I grew up in the Jacques house, yard and back seat of the car after countless years of hockey. I knew Shane when he rode a dirt bike and played the bass guitar. His attitude and character had a deep impact on me and it's for those reasons that I will continue to celebrate his life. As so many of you have written, Shane had a significant impact on our lives, what a valuable contribution he has made. Thank you God, for giving us, Shane.

I was shocked to hear the news about Shane. I thought of Shane often. The best way I can describe shane would be a bright light in a dark room. He always lifted up spirits. He was generous, supportive, and a very thoughtful person. I always looked forward to see him, and I am very sad I won't get to again. My heart goes out to the family of Shane.

Shane Jacques, the best friend I ever had - I am on the other side of the planet in the land of smiles, but may be the saddest man in Thailand. However in these last days I have come full circle to a point where I can only celebrate in the incredible lush landscape of your life. I will remember always the best of times, from our U of M days, to our trips to Jamaica and Mexico, and will miss most our weekly protocol of dinner that started about ten years ago when we both found ourselves single again - I would cook and you would eat, always proclaiming that I was the best cook on the planet. You were a big man Shane - watcher and facilitator of all those around you. I can't begin to count the lives that you have touched, the friends that you lifted out of despair or hardship. Just a big bear hug from you made all the difference in the world. I and the rest of the tribe will have huge boots to fill but we shall proudly carry the torch and try our hardest to be half the man you were. My heart goes out to Shane's brothers George and Kelly, whom I know, his parents and his sister. Shane was my family too and I am eternally thankful.

Shane and I had a special relationship, he dug my style and I dug his, and boy could we argue! A funny memory I'm sure you've all heard is when I took him for a ride on my snowmobile and we jumped the Blvd. on Churchill Drive. Going way to fast of course, we flew 15 feet in the air and couldn't stop laughing for hours maybe years! I will you dearly my friend Hi yo! Terry

Awww my dearest and oldest friend Shane, I am on the other side of the planet in the land of smiles, Southeast Thailand... and perhaps I may be the saddest man in Thailand today. I will remember always the best of times, from our U of M days when we were still just children, to our trips abroad to Jamaica and Mexico discovering new cultures and worlds,it was always an adventure with you buddy. What I will miss most will be our weekly protocal of dinner. It started about ten years ago when we were both recently single, I would come to cook and you would eat, always proclaiming that I was the best cook on the planet. That was a microcosm of everything you represented buddy, always giving your pals a boost up, a helping hand, a few extra bucks when we couldn't meet our rent. Sometimes just a hug from you made all the difference in the world. I can ONLY celebrate in the richness and incredible lush landscape of the life of Shane Jacques. My heart goes out to George and Kelly, sister Diedre, and parents George and Dorothy. I too have felt the deep loss of young family and can only offer my deepest condolences in this time. Shane was my family too and will be missed dearly but never forgotten

My heart goes out to Shane's family during this extremely difficult time. I knew Shane for close to ten years now. We spent more than a few summer afternoons on the Cactus patio, and he sure could make me laugh. More recently I would run into him and Phil while they were out on their morning walks (I live just down the street). It brightened my day to see him walking up McMillan and have a morning chat! In the last couple of years I've undergone some much needed lifestyle changes which took me away from the patios, and I always felt when seeing Shane that he was genuinely happy for me and my well being. Shane's ongoing support was a gift, and I can truly call him a dear friend. I will remember him with much love and fondness in my heart. Ali August
