Obituary of Patricia Hornung
Patricia Frances Hornung
(nee Meagher)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pat on February 11, 2010.
Born in Canso, NS, on March 24, 1923, she was predeceased by her husband, August(Gus), in 2002.
She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her four children and their families: Sheila (Tony) Lee, granddaughter Adrienne - Winnipeg; Barbara (Clarence) Kroeker - Vancouver; Brian (Carol) Hornung - Canmore, grandson Paul (Danielle) great-granddaughters, Ava and Ella - Toronto, grandson Ian (Saskia) great-grandson, Grayson - Calgary, granddaughter Erin - London; Paul (Gale) Hornung, grandson Stephen and granddaughter Heather - Edmonton.
Pat took her nurses training in Antigonish, NS. She and her good friend Pearle Hicke came west on an adventure to Broadview, SK, to work in the hospital for one year. They both met and married their lifetime spouses and settled in Winnipeg. Pat and Gus built their home and raised their family in East Kildonan and were active members of St. Alphonsus Parish for over 50 years.
Pat participated in the first nurse's refresher course in Winnipeg, and worked for a number of years at St. Boniface Hospital. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, cooking, travelling and spending summer days at their Spruce Sands getaway. She had a wonderful sense of humour and played a mean game of cards right to the very end.
Golden West Centennial Lodge was home for Mom for four years. The family wish to express heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff on the fourth floor for all the care and kindness extended to Mom, particularly over the last few months.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Pat's memory to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10- 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2, or to any charity of their choice.
A Memorial Tree was planted for Patricia
