Thelma HENNE

Obituary of Thelma HENNE

THELMA LUCILLE HENNE On May 25th, 2009, our beloved mother Thelma Henne passed away peacefully at the age of 94 years. Mom is survived by her sons Rich (Janet) and Doug (Pat), daughter Barbara Drain (Sean), ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Akiko of Victoria and Audrey of Winnipeg, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Charles (1968), sister Lynne and brothers Ben and Bob. Mom was born in Winnipeg on January 29th, 1915 and grew up primarily in the Charleswood area. She was married to Dad in 1936 and went on to become a homemaker raising her family in the north-end and West Kildonan. Following the early loss of her beloved Chuck, she went on to work at the U of M bookstore and the Film Classification Board as well as traveling from time to time. Mom was a kind, humble, gentle and loving lady who always showed a generosity of heart and spirit. She was genuinely non-judgmental along with an unlimited capacity for understanding others. Nanny was deeply interested in the lives of her grand and great-grandchildren, always enquiring and wanting to know about how their activities and pursuits were progressing. No matter what life threw her way, Mom never complained or felt sorry for herself. At most, toward the end of her journey, she simply said that she was getting very tired. The family would like to express our thanks and deep appreciation to all the home care workers who showed Mom much love and compassion during the last few years of her life, adding immeasurably to her comfort and happiness. In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 1st at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Pastor Tom Lurvey officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
