ELIZABETH(BETTY)ANN
(GORIG)GRETCHEN
Betty was called home on May 8, 2009 to be with her beloved husband, father, mother and other family members. She fought valiantly against breast cancer but the Lord had Mercy and gathered her up quickly.
Betty was born July 20, 1935 to the late Milo and Angenette Colburn. She grew up in Mason County, graduating from Scottville High School in 1953. She married Donald Gorig who predeceased her in 1973. Betty was a school bus driver for Mason County Central for many years before moving to Canada. In 1975, she married Donald Gretchen and they had 27 wonderful years together before he passed in 2002. Betty was a special person who loved gardening, talking, traveling, singing with Sweet Adelines, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always there with a helping hand if anyone ever needed it. She will be greatly missed.
Betty is survived by her daughters Linda Lawson (Mike Rau), Lori (Kevin) Toner, Mary (Robert) Huggard and son Thomas (Pascale) Gretchen; her grandchildren Diana (Scott) Serpa, Steven Thom, Nicole Huggard (Brandon Cohoon), Jonathan Huggard, Kieran Toner, Kwynn Toner and Zachary Gretchen; her great-grand children Seth Cohoon, Taylor Serpa, Alex Serpa and Kennedy Serpa. Betty will be sadly missed by her beloved dog and companion, Princess. She is also survived by her brother Milo W. (Karen) Colburn, stepsister Leona Richardson and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her parents Milo and Angenette Colburn, stepmother Dorothy Colburn, husband Donald Gorig and husband Donald Gretchen.
Services will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2W 3V7 on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with burial next to her beloved husband. There will be a memorial service in Scottville, Michigan at a later date.
