Obituary of Nicholas Gerbinski

NICHOLAS E. GERBINSKI It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Nicholas E. Gerbinski on August 4, 2010 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Nick was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Nicholas was born in the North End of Winnipeg on April 20, 1928, at the start of the Depression. At a very young age, Nicholas found a large copper penny which was the start of his interest in coins; thus, he became a coin collector, trader, and seller of old Canadian coins. He was one of the earliest coin dealers in Canada. Nicholas was an honourary life member of the Manitoba Coin Club and a life member of the Canadian and American Numismatic Societies. Nicholas retired from VIA Rail Canada in 1986 with thirty-four years' service. Nicholas is survived by his soulmate of 30 years Helen Logan; his children Michael (Sheryl), David (Carol), Karen and Janice; his grandchildren Sarah, Miranda, Jason, Taylor, Shawn, Aaron, Ryan and Tiffany; and great-grandchildren Brendon, Jenna, Riana and Michael. He was predeceased by his father Leon in 1959 and mother Ann in 1979. Viewing will take place at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, on Friday, August 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 7 at 1 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel. Interment at All Saints Cemetery. The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba for the years of treatments, care and compassion. We would also like to thank Patrick and Joanne Logan for all of their support during this difficult time. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
