Obituary of Cheryl Fogel

Cheryl Bazan Fogel With profound sadness, but relief that her pain has ended, we announce the passing of Cheryl Bazan Fogel, who died at home on October 13, 2010, in San Carlos, California, after a battle with cancer. She was born of loving parents, Anne and Peter, in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 13, 1957, and lived all of her youth in Cook's Creek. After completing high school at Springfield Collegiate, she attended the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg earning her Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Nursing Degrees. Cheryl enjoyed the company of her close friends Tracy, Sally, Jackie, Paula and Andrea. After graduating, she and the girls spent some time in Australia and a lot of time over the years at Tracy's family cabin on Lake of the Woods. Cheryl had a passion for experiencing the world. Along with her sister, Janus, she traveled through Asia, the Mediterranean, and Europe. Hawaii held a special place in Cheryl's heart. It was most special when she spent time in Hawaii with her children and their father. She valued contact with her friends and was thrilled when her two high school girlfriends, Cindy and Laurie, travelled from Winnipeg to California for a visit during Cheryl's illness. Cheryl left Winnipeg in 'search of the ocean and palm trees'. Upon arriving in the U.S. she spent some time nursing in Denver and this is where she married and where her beautiful daughter Katryna was born. Later, the family of three moved to Belmont, California where her wonderful son Alexander was born. She loved her children with a passion and a devotion that encompassed her life. She taught them to believe in themselves, to stand up for themselves, to know themselves, and to accept responsibility for themselves. Her family is most appreciative and thankful for the professional loving care that she received from the staff at Pathways Hospice Service and from her very special friends Catherine and Pam who were at her side until the end. Cheryl was predeceased by her father Peter Bazan. She leaves her daughter Katryna, her son Alexander, her mother Anne Marjorie Bazan (Shalay), her brother Darrell (Laura), her sister Janus (Tony), her nephews Mackenzie, Marcos, Eros, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. We will miss Cheryl's compassion. We will miss her engaging conversation and her laughter. Cremation has taken place in California. A celebration of her life will be held in Winnipeg at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Thursday, October 28 at 7:00 pm. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if you wish, please make a donation to Cancer Care Manitoba in memory of Cheryl or any charity of your choice. My soul is full of longing For the secret of the sea, And the heart of the great ocean Sends a thrilling pulse through me. - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow -
