ANNIE WITNICKI

Obituary of ANNIE WITNICKI

ANNIE WITNICKI On January 18, 2012 after a brief struggle with cancer, Annie Witnicki left her loving family to join her beloved husband John who predeceased her 11 short months ago, as well as her infant son who passed at birth, her parents and oldest sister Catherine. Mom is survived by her sons Michael (Enaka) and Myron (Marina); grandchildren Allan (Kim), Christina and Tanisha along with 5 great grandchildren; sisters Stephanie (Art) Moroko, Eugenia (Myron) Luszczyk and brother Johnny Romaniuk as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Annie was born in Tustan, Poland on February 18, 1924 to parents Michael and Maria Romaniuk and was the second oldest of 5 children. After surviving many struggles and hardships during her early years, including the never forgotten memories of being detained in a war camp in Germany, Mom met the love of her life John, whom she married on September 9, 1945. In August 1949, Mom and Dad and most of Mom’s family immigrated to Canada in search of a better life. In 1952 the family bought a homestead in Winnipeg and in 1957 they built their new home, where they remained to raise their family. Mom was a devoted wife and mother –always caring for those around her. When her sons were young, Mom looked after the family hobby farm where they reared chickens, geese, ducks, pigs and a few cows. Mom was well known and respected for her Ukrainian cooking and baking, especially making many varieties of perogies, which she generously shared with family, friends, and neighbours. Mom also loved outdoor activities including flower and vegetable gardening, wild blueberry and mushroom picking and fishing with Dad during their 65 years of marriage. Although we will all miss Mom dearly, we take comfort in knowing that Mom’s pain is now gone, and that she’s reunited with Dad in Heaven.
