Brian Esselmont

Obituary of Brian Esselmont

Brian passed away peacefully at his home on December 6, 2010, a few weeks after his sixty-second birthday. He was predeceased by his father, Harold Esselmont in 1984, and leaves behind his loving wife of 37 years Bonnie, sons Jeffery Robert and Sean Patrick, mother Freda Esselmont, brother Barry, sister-in-law Ingrid, and nieces Christine and Elizabeth Esselmont. Born in Winnipeg, November 23, 1948, Brian grew up in a close knit family. He played hockey and baseball, and enjoyed all manner of sports. . While attending Daniel McIntyre School he was on the curling team and in the choir. He also valued visits to the lake and the Coulter Farm during the summers. In 1973 Brian started working at MacMillan Bloedel Building Materials, which later became Weyerhauser. Coworkers admired his strong work ethic, and easy laugh. He worked there for 30 years until he took early retirement. In 1973 he married the love of his life, Bonnie. The two were best friends and simply enjoyed being together, talking about everything under the sun, and still learning new things about each other, even after almost 40 years. Brian's greatest joy was time spent with his boys. He would work long days in the warehouse and come home and play ball hockey until dark with his sons. Brian loved rough housing with the boys and supported them in their sports activities, never wanting to miss a game, and ready to drive them, no matter how early or how far. He loved talking with them and learning about their day, and this continued even when they were grown. Brian loved traveling to places such as Quebec City, Vancouver, Hawaii, Great Britain and Colorado. Clear Lake was also a favourite and frequently visited spot where Bonnie and Brian enjoyed renting cabins throughout their marriage and having lovely times with Jeff and Sean. A love of cars, sports, music and dogs, was something Brian nurtured and passed on to his sons. Brian could often be found walking around his Crescentwood neighbourhood, accompanied by his beloved dog, Sally. He will be missed by his many friends, who came to know what a good, kind man he was. On a recent Fathers Day, Jeff bought Brian a MP3 player and put all the works of his favorite band, the Beatles on it. When asked after listening to it all which Beatles song was his favorite, Brian smiled blissfully and said, "All of them". Next time you hear a Beatles song, think of Brian.......we wiIl.
