Obituary of (mary) DOBSON
(MARY) EILEEN DOBSON
(NEE GRIEVESON)
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend Eileen Dobson on August 21, 2009 at River East Personal Care Home.
She will be greatly missed by Ivan, her husband of 65 years; sons: Wayne (Carol), Randy (Sandra), Terry (Shan); daughters: Karen (Colin), Cheryl (Bill), Brenda (Ron); grandchildren: Aaron, Evan, Marc, Kristin, Kelly, Whitney, Natalie, Nicholas, Hayley, Jillian, and Madalyn; and in England; her sisters Betty and Ena, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her mother and father, 3 bothers, 1 sister, and 2 grandchildren.
Mom was born April 14, 1923, the 3rd daughter of Ralph and Winnifred Grieveson in Hartlepool, England. After leaving school, she worked at various jobs before moving to Keighley, Yorkshire where she lived and worked until she joined the WAAF (Women's Auxiliary Air Force) in July 1941. It was on an RAF Airbase where she met Ivan in 1942. They were married Oct 11, 1943 in Keighley. After mom was discharged from the air force in Feb 1945, Dad brought his English war bride to Canada and settled in Winnipeg where the children were born and raised. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling, especially their numerous trips back to England.
Mom loved children and after watching her own family grow up, she worked as a Health Care Aide at Children's Hospital for many years. She was an avid bowler, bridge player, and a member of the War Brides Association. She enjoyed family gatherings, music and dancing, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook. There was always fresh baking in the house and we always went home with care packages.
Mom spent the last 2 years at River East Personal Care home where she was known for her bright blue eyes, wonderful smile, and great sense of humour. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the loving care the staff at River East PCH gave our mother.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Grey Street United Church, on Grey and Sandhurst.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to River East Personal Care Home, Charity Road Neighbourhood.
Mom you will be greatly missed but will remain in our hearts forever.
