Obituary of Lena Danylchuk
Lena Danylchuk
November 4, 1914 - December 4, 2009
Peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2009, Mom passed away at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg.
Lena was predeceased by her loving husband of 71 years, Steve, two infant children Olga and Walter, her brother John and sister Doris.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Ron (Elena), Jerry (Donna), and Bob (Margaret), seven grandchildren, Tammy Gerstner (Paul), Virpi Mattson (Brian), Steven, Bradley, David (Raphael), Gordon, and Jennifer Thompson (Greg), and her nine great-grandchildren who were the delight of her last years, Amanda, Elizabeth (Joseph), Courtney, Sarah, Grace, Jessica, Jacob, Desmond, and Lauren. Also left to mourn are her beloved sister Mary Henzel and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Born in Stuartburn Manitoba to Wasyl and Anna Kohut. Mom met and married Steve in 1934. After farming with Dad in Greenridge MB and bearing 5 children, they moved to Winnipeg in 1946 where she continued to work and raise her family. Mom's faith was her mainstay and she was a faithful member of St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church and its Catholic Womens' League until her death.
Mom and Dad enjoyed many happy retirement years working in the garden, preparing wonderful family meals and traveling to visit their far-flung family.
In her last years Mom enjoyed her life at Riverwood Square where she was honored as the first resident by cutting the ribbon at the official opening. Mom made many new friends there and we thank them and the staff for the friendly and loving companionship they provided. She always said she couldn't be treated more like a queen.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. St. Goddard, Dr. Tran, Loraine and the rest of the incredibly caring and compassionate staff on E3 at Riverview Health Centre. You truly gave Mom complete peace and comfort in her last days. There are not enough words to express our appreciation.
Prayers will be said on Monday December 14, at 7:30 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main at Inkster. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday December 15 at 11:00 am at St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave., Winnipeg. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Foundations or St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church.
