Obituary of Louis Daniels

Louis David Daniels Louis David Daniels, born February 7, 1934, son of David Daniels and Edith Yellowquill, passed away May 16, 2010 at Victoria General Hospital with family by his side after a long illness at the age of 76. Louis, former Chief of Long Plain First Nation and a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers Local 0555, was predeceased by parents, David and Edith, grandparents Mary (nee Pashe) and Joe Yellowquill, adopted sister Stella Smoke (nee Yellowquill), grandson, Nathan Aaron Starr, and son-in-law Lawrence Whitehead. Louis was born on Long Plain First Nation and was raised by his grandparents, after his parents passed away. He attended Portage La Prairie and Brandon Residential School until age 16. He enjoyed playing, watching, and coaching sports, especially hockey and loved to work. He did various construction jobs before getting his welding certificate and joining the Boilermaker Union. In 1959 he met Emma Marianne Bone who became his wife and together they had nine children. He enjoyed being a father and smothered his children with attention when he came home from work. He was proud of his children's and his grandchildren's accomplishments no matter how big or small the accomplishment was. He loved hunting and taking long walks but most of all he loved being with friends and family. His favorite past time was having breakfast with family at restaurants. Louis is survived by his sisters Gladys Hearns and Kathy Laporte, sons Perry Daniels (Kim) and Kimbi Daniels (Laurie), daughters Olga Rosskoph, Danielle Daniels, Janice Daniels (John), Mona LeClaire (Joe), Roanne Daniels (Carl), Nancy Daniels, and Melissa Daniels, 27 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and former wife Emma Daniels. There will be a Wake Service on Tuesday, May 18, from 5:00 p.m. until Wednesday, May 19, at 10:00 a.m. with a Funeral Service commencing at 10:00 a.m. held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery. A man proud of his culture, a father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend to many, Louis David Daniels will be greatly missed and loved by all.
