Obituary of Dorothy Coppell

Dorothy Coppell August 30, 1919 - May 27, 2008 Much loved mother and grandmother, Dorothy Coppell, passed away peacefully at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Roy (1979); son Kimberley (1995); parents William and Isabel; siblings Florence, Isabel, Nancy, George and Ken; in-laws William and Louise Coppell; sister-in-law Meryl Coppell; and long-time friend Connie Reynolds with whom she maintained contact for more than fifty years. Mom's memory will be forever held within the hearts of those who loved and cherished her. Daughter Leslie (Randy) Pelser of Winnipeg; granddaughter Lisa (James) Noble of Arlington, Virginia; daughter-in-law Brenda Coppell; granddaughter Caitlyn Coppell; grandson Devon Coppell of Winnipeg. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Robert "Red" (Lorette) Coppell of Calgary and family. In England, special nieces Anita (Gordon) Holt; Linda (Michael) Johnson of Preston, Lancashire and their families. Dorothy will also be missed by special friend Ruth McLean of Winnipeg. Born in St. Bee's, England, Dorothy was the youngest daughter of William and Isabel Dockray. Mom and Dad met in England and were married on May 18, 1943 while Dad was serving with the Canadian Armed Forces. In 1947, Mom came to Canada as a British War Bride, and joined Dad in making a home in Dauphin where they enjoyed many happy years and good times with family and friends. In 1972 they moved to Winnipeg due to Dad's job transfer and to be closer to family. Mom always went that extra mile to make special times in our lives even more special. She was an excellent cook (wonderful short bread, mince tarts and Yorkshire pudding) and Sunday dinners were a highlight of the week. Mom was strong in character, independent throughout her life and stoically accepted the difficulties of life; one of her frequent sayings was "Well, there it is." Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling and after Dad's passing Mom continued to travel with friends to BC, on cruises and back to England several times including a memorable trip in 1987 when she was able to travel to England with her daughter. In 2003, declining health made it necessary for Mom to move to Middlechurch Home. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff of A1 for their kindness and excellent care in making Middlechurch her home during the past five years. A special thank you to those who attended Mom in those last few days leading up to her passing. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be at Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Middlechurch Home at a later date. Donations in memory of Dorothy can be made to The Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, 280 Balderstone Road, West St. Paul, MB R4A 4A6. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
