Obituary of Michael CHUCKREE
MICHAEL CHUCKREE
In the early morning of January 9, 2011, Michael Chuckree peacefully passed away at the age of 87.
Mike was born on December 5th 1923 in Angusville, MB to Philip and Nellie Chuckree.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, his darling Helena; his children, Pat (Al), Shirley, and Rick (Cynthia); grandchildren, Robert (Karen), Rebecca (Tom), Catherine, Reagan and Grant; great-grandchildren Anya, Jonah, Tobias, Eden and Brennan. He is survived by his brother Lawrence (Nettie), sister Jesse, and numerous nieces and nephews. He has gone to join his parents, brothers and sisters (John, Annie, Mary, Bill, Rose, Steve, Alice), and his Lord.
Mike was a man that reveled in all of God's creation. He took pride in the gifts the Lord gave him. He started as a young athlete and scholar. He was a hard worker on the farm, mink ranch, Dominion Bridge, as a stucco wireman and Animal Caretaker at the University of Winnipeg. He was a giving man through blood donations to the Red Cross, proudly displaying each sticker in the hall, and his dedication as a founding member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was a Men's Club member, was awarded a lifetime membership in the Knights of Columbus, Shyskovich Council # 8925 and worked tirelessly at the Church bingo. Together he and Helena were dedicated volunteers of the church's Outreach and Catechism Program, which saw them delivering religious materials throughout rural Manitoba.
Mike was a friend to all, and was loved by all through jokes and stories and songs. He had a handshake that showed the warmth of his heart, a heart that belonged to his beautiful Helena. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and humble fisherman, one who loved as he was shown to love by our Lord.
Prayers will be held on Thursday, January 13th, at 7:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main at Inkster. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, January 14th at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave, Winnipeg, MB. Interment will be held at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory may be made to the CNIB.
