Obituary of Cynthia LAI)

CYNTHIA PO SIN CHIU (nee LAI) After a long struggle with the complications from a stroke of 6 years, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and daughter, Cynthia, passed away peacefully after a short battle with a heart attack at midnight of July 4, 2009 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 57 years. Besides her husband Yung Hon Chiu, she leaves to mourn, daughter Mandy Man Yee McRuer (Daniel McRuer) of Winnipeg; two sons Donny Wing Kwong Chiu of Winnipeg and Daniel Wing Kin Chiu of Winnipeg and one grandchild Amanda Danielle On Ki McRuer. She also leaves to mourn her passing, mother Kan Choi Chan; brothers Tony Tak Ming Lai (Shirley) and Denny Yuk Ming Lai (Stella); sisters Pauline Po Lin Lai, Rebecca Po Chun Lai and Goretti Po Fong Au (Andrew). She was predeceased by her father Kam Lai. Cynthia was born in Hong Kong and was raised in a large family with many siblings. She learned to share, and she shared her life with those around her in Winnipeg. She brought along her gentle, fun and selfless nature to volunteer tirelessly for the Winnipeg Chinese Cultural Centre, Folklorama, Age and Opportunity and other organizations to bring smiles to other people's faces. Cynthia was also a loving mother and wife that raised 3 children and would do anything to protect her family. Her husband and all her children were present next to her bedside as Cynthia slowly passed away. She will be greatly missed by her family, many relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital, Cynthia's physicians, Rowelliza and homecare staff, and the staff at Luther Home. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment will follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Cynthia's memory to Luther Home, 1081 Andrews St.
