Obituary of William Chick

William E. Chick It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of William E. Chick on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, at the age of 87. Surviving to cherish Bill's memory forever is his beloved wife Anne of 60 years, his four daughters: Carolyne (David), Marcia (Dennis), Patricia and Janis (Allan); as well as his dear grandchildren whom he adored very much: Shawn, Ryan (Talia), Kelsey (Crystal), Kevan (Lesley), Christina, Matthew and Michael and great-grandson Jack. Bill was predeceased by his parents Anton and Anna, brother John (Esther) Chick, sisters Rose (Michael) Kudlak, Christine (Steve) Salome and Olga (Reginald) Dixon. Bill was born in Winnipeg on September 15, 1923, the youngest of 5 children. In 1950, he met and married the love of his life, Anne and together they raised their family of four daughters who will always be grateful for their Dad's life-long love and support. Bill and Anne's love for each other never faltered throughout their 60 year marriage, in spite of life's many hardships. For 32 years, Bill enjoyed working for Winnipeg Hydro starting out as a Substation Technician, eventually being promoted to the Credits Department, retiring in 1983. Bill was a self-taught handyman who loved working with his hands, as evidenced in the family cottage he built at Winnipeg Beach. It was there that he and his family spent many relaxing and enjoyable summers. When not at the cottage, Bill loved to travel with his family throughout Canada and the United States. Following retirement, he and Anne continued their travels to the Maritimes, Texas, and Hawaii. Bill was devoted to his Ukrainian Catholic faith and was a life-long parishioner of St. Joseph's Church. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving care and compassion given to Bill at Middlechurch Home by nurses Halina, Helen, Caitlin and all the staff as well as nurses Jennifer, Mila and student-nurse Samantha at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Prayers will be said at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Friday, November 5th at 7pm. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue with Very Rev. Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating on Saturday, November 6th at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at the Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's name may be made to the Blessed Vasyl Shrine or to the Church Decorations Fund, if desired. May God grant you eternal rest, Dad. We will always love you! Vichnaya Pam'yat
