Obituary of Mary Cherewyk

Mary (Shordee) Cherewyk February 1, 1915 - March 18, 2010 With gratitude for her long life, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mary was predeceased by her husband John in 1971, her parents Nicolas and Anastasia, 4 sisters, 3 brothers. Mary is survived by her sons Eugene (Lillian) Mervin (Cathy) and Sidney (Lynda), 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Born on her parent's homestead near Ebenezer, SK, she attended Rona Elementary School in Veregin, SK and Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton, SK. She married John in 1935, and moved with her family to Winnipeg in 1957. Her career was built around her culinary talents. A member of the UCWL for over 70 years. Mary was a devout member of Blessed Virgin Mary, then Holy Eucharist parishes. Daily, she listened to the rosary on the radio while she prayed for those she loved. We'll remember her with a cup of tea in one hand and telephone in the other tying her large family together. An excellent cook, she was happiest preparing food for visitors. Hundreds celebrated marriage with the exquisite cakes she decorated. Prayers will be held on Thursday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 505 Watt St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday March 26 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Grandson Rev. T. Cherwick will concelebrate with Rev. M. Kwiatkowski. Interment at Holy Family Cemetery.
