FILOMENA CHAN NEE GONCALVES It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Filomena (Filo, Fil, Mena) at the young age of 37 after a courageous battle with cancer. Filomena passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Riverview Health Centre surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving husband Alan, her parents Manuel and Gertrudes, brothers Antonio (Nelia), Sergio (Tracey) and nephews Marcio, Bruno, Thomas, Austin and Jordan. In-laws Tom and Lana, brothers Ron (Natalie), Ray (Sarah), Nelson (Tammy), Wilson (Julie), and nieces and nephews Payton, Haylee, Delaney, Tyson and Alexandre. She will be missed by her wonderful friends who supported her through her battle, along with family in Portugal and England. Filomena was born in Portugal on December 18, 1972 and was already on her first of many travels at the age of six months when her parents immigrated to Canada. She attended Ecole Sacre-Coeur, Daniel McIntyre and received her Teaching Degree from the University of Manitoba. Filomena's battle with cancer began five years ago and along the way she met Alan, the love of her life and they were married on August 9th, 2008. She defined the phrase Live, Love, Laugh! Filomena radiated with kindness and warmth to all she had come in contact with. Prayers will be said on Monday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 365 Burnell Street. Interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Many thanks to the staff of 3E Riverview Health Centre for the loving care provided to Filomena. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Filomena Chan Fundraising Trust Fund, Steinbach Credit Union, (at any location).
