Obituary of Frank BURTNEY

FRANK BURTNEY February 14, 1929 - April 3, 2008 Peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Riverview Health Centre, Frank Burtney passed away with his Family by his side. Left to cherish his memory; are his wife Anne of 56 years, and their three children Arnold (Pat), Kim (Wayne), and Randy. He is also survived by his sisters Ann, Sophie, and Olga; nieces Shirley, Gladys, Marg and nephews Barry, Brian,Leonard, Philip and Victor. Frank was predeceased by his parents Lena and Victor, and sister Vivian. Dad's working life started at the age of 16 in the gravel pits. Soon after, he began his 46-year career with Canadian National Railway, retiring in 1990. He met Anne in 1950 at an August Dance in Oakbank, and they married in 1951, making their home on the family farm in Springfield, Manitoba. He was also an active volunteer with East St. Paul Fire Department for 33 years. Along with his family, Dad's passion included curling, playing cards, gardening, picking blueberries and wild mushrooms with his good friend "Peter". He was also known as a member of "The Lorne Hill Boys" a.k.a. "Toilet Tippers" The Family extends a heartfelt "Thank You" to Dr. David Meryrowitz and Margaret, as well the nursing staff at Riverview Health Centre, and Concordia Hospital. A special "Thank You", to all the home care workers which made it possible for Dad to remain at home in comfort during his illness. Prayers will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. noon at Cropo Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow at Ukrainian National Cemetery, Lorne Hill Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of one's choice. In closing Dad's family would like to thank all of his friends and neighbors who supported him in his final days. Happy Berry Picking Dad. We Love and Miss You.
