George Brosnyak It is with great sadness we announce the passing of George Brosnyak on December 17th 2010. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Sally, sisters Irene Osinchuk and Pat (Frank) Cotroneo; brother Gerry; Aunt Anna Diduch; sisters-in-law Dianne Johnstone (Calgary) and Debra (Rod) Johnston (Vancouver); nephews Kyle, Ryan, Tyler, Pierce, Frank and Anthony; niece Jordanna; as well as numerous cousins, their families and loving friends. George was predeceased by his parents John and Anastasia, infant brothers Roman and Paul, mother-in-law Olga Wright and brothers-in-law Ken Johnstone and Greg Osinchuk. George was born on April 15, 1947 in Linz, Austria and immigrated to Canada in 1951. He grew up in Winnipeg's North End; attended St. John's High and was proud of his North End roots. George worked at CNR for 36 years as a rail traffic controller (GB "God Bless"). He was an avid sports fan; enjoyed reading and travelling with Sally. George considered himself an amateur chef. Shopping for and cooking meals was always an adventure. Celebrations with family and friends revolved around food and the sharing of stories from past and present. George was proud of his Ukrainian heritage and had a keen interest in learning about the history, culture and its traditions. He was active in various organizations over the years both as a member and volunteer. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff of H4 at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 1:30 pm at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue with Very Rev. Father Bohdan Lukie. C.Ss.R. presiding. A private family interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to: Children Of Chornobyl Canadian Fund, 2118 - A Bloor Street West, Suite 200, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M6S 1M8; or to a charity of your choice.
