Obituary of Micheal BRATKO

MICHEAL BRATKO After a long courageous battle with his illness, Micheal passed away on July 15, 2008 at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 69 years. Micheal is survived by his wife Mary Louise; sons Roy (Joyce) and Daryl of Winnipeg and Wayne (Leslie) of Ottawa; grandchildren Derrick and Mallory; brother Leonard (Angie) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Katherine; brothers Paul and Ivan and sister Mae. Micheal was born December 28, 1938 in Winnipegosis, MB to John and Katherine Bratko, oldest of 5 children. As a young man he worked briefly for CN Rail as an agent before joining the airforce. While in the airforce he had many posting where he met his beloved wife to be, Mary. While in the airforce he also served as a member of Royal Canadian Tattoo. After 10 years in the airforce he left and moved to Winnipeg and married Mary Lou. They were married for 36 years. In 1972 Mike went to work for Piston Ring Service and Supply and remained there until his retirement in 2004. Mike was a very devoted family man; always putting others needs before his own. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. The only rival for Mike's love for his family was his love for the outdoors. He particularly loved spending time in his garden. Goodbye from all of us, we loved you very much. You are definitely walking with the angels now. The family would like to thank Dr. Harding, all nurses and staff on Ward GA3 at Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.cropo.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
