Oxana BOCHNA

Obituary of Oxana BOCHNA

OXANA BOCHNA In Winnipeg suddenly, July 12, 2011, after a brief illness and a long and difficult life. At 87 she joins her late husband Bohdan. From the generation that suffered the brutality of WWII in Eastern Europe, she found sanctuary in Canada and a better future. Through hard work and hard times shared with her devoted husband, she was able to realize a life she wanted, a bit of security, a family, a little house of her own. Those she left behind she never forgot especially her own lost childhood and the Mirosedi family who gave their daughter all they could. With courage and love she managed between the two worlds she knew, happy in the interludes when neither her elusive new life nor her tragic past upset her basic happiness. The goodwill she believed in and gave so freely was always there. Those who knew her will miss her deeply. Thanks to her friends and the Ukrainian Community of North End Winnipeg, Lesia Swaluk of the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko, Carpathia Credit Union, Prosvita, and her church, the Cathedral of Sts Vladimir and Olga. Thanks to the people of Manitoba Housing and Holy Family Home who gave her a new start after Bohdan passed away, and Seven Oaks General Hospital. Oxana leaves behind her son Jurij and her daughter-in-law Jane who miss her most of all. Prayers for Oxana will be at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. this Friday, July 22 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Liturgy Saturday, July 23 at 10:00 am at Sts Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with interment immediately following at All Saints Cemetery.
